School Board Meeting Minutes

Present: Brad Heard, Amy Weaver, Gary Spoerre, Leigh Bedokis-Gusta, Faye Myatt, Todd Ward, Barry Vesciglio, Michelle Rickard, Monica Schramm, Fr. Ken Schaefer; Guest: Mark Dillon
I. Opening Prayer: Gary led the board in prayer
II. Approval of January minutes: Todd motioned to approve the January meeting minutes. Both
Monica and Michelle seconded the motion.
III. Mark Dylan provided the board with an update of the plan for the new school. He shared updated
floor plans and an overview of each of the three phases of the project. He also brought a specialized "viewer" which allowed the board to see a "virtual classroom". Ground breaking is
currently scheduled for the fall of 2016. The diocese has given approval to break ground on the new school project.
IV. Pastor's Report: Fr. Ken did not have an additional report outside of the new school update. He
did share that there are tentative plans for a fundraiser at Walker's Buff on June 11th, details to
follow.
V. Principal's Report: Principal Faye informed the board that she purchased 40 iPad mini's (@ $250) and cases (@ $30) for the school. The money was taken out of the annual fund account.
There will be an active shooter in-service for all teachers on Friday, February 12th, given by the Herrin and Energy police departments.
Eva Kor, Holocaust survivor is scheduled for February 18th at 6pm. A very large turnout is expected. Fr. Ken encouraged everyone to attend and spoke of what an honor it is to host this speaker and the significance of her presentation.
Principal Faye is currently working on next year's budget and will have something for the board to review at our next meeting.
The Jump Rope for Heart kick off will be on February 26th in PE class.
VI. School Committee: The annual Mardi Gras event is scheduled for February 9th.
The next school committee meeting is scheduled for February 16th.
Principal Faye was able to get 20 sets of tempera paints for the school through Labels for Education. 17,000 labels were collected.
The School Committee gave $20,000 to the school as a result of their fund raising efforts.
Script cards earned $590.17 for the school as a result of purchases made in Nov/Dec.
VII. Athletics: The diocesan basketball tournament raised $5297.25 and the detergent fundraiser raised $2460.00
At 6:36 pm Amy made a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Monica.
